Epiphany Toys NZ is a family owned, home based Toy shop based in Tauranga, New Zealand, based on the principals of Dr Rudolf Steiner and Waldorf Education. We specialise in hand-crafted, organically shaped, natural wooden toys, art materials, craft supplies, books and musical instruments. Our range is produced with reverence for the environment and the child, to encourage meaningful and creative play.
How we began
We personally began our journey as new parents with a young family in 2006 when we decided to send our eldest daughter to Rose Ring Kindergarten in Welcome Bay, Tauranga. It must be said this has been, and still is an education for us all.
Not long after, I found myself needing a Steiner friendly gift and really, I don’t think I was totally prepared for how hard this could potentially be. In Hastings of all places, I assumed there would be a wonderful magical place that families could go to that would be brimming with appropriate treasures. But when to my disappointment I was told by a local, that they just got things here and there and when they managed, the idea that has now become Epiphany, was born.
Now several years into our Steiner journey, one child up and many experiences, challenges and joys along the way, my desire to share and encourage other parents and caregivers, Steiner or otherwise, in their role as their precious child’s first teacher and greatest cheerleader is greater then ever. As I believe many doing this for me, has lead to so much joy and happiness in my life as a mother, and that this is and should be free for all to experience.
Buy the best quality toys
At Epiphany we advocate simplicity, family and care. Encouraging parents to avoid the urge to over indulge our children with cheap mass produced toys which have a very limited life span, and are generally, not what we would consider good value for money. But to make what you can (through workshops and resources) and to buy less but better quality, what you cant. The result being a child whom is happy with and, cherishes and loves what they do have. And toys that are well used, cared for and last the test of time.
